Hello...
At the moment, I am focusing mainly on group art walks: that is, the Essential Nature Walking Art Workshops, as well as a monthly group of art and nature lovers making creative visits to beautiful places in Devon.
I also run workshops and carry out my own professional practice - see http://www.lindagordon.org.uk. This often takes the form of land installations and site-responsive works and activities, using an extensive mix of materials, techniques and approaches. Always it is about place, and my close relationship with the earth.
I like to involve people in my work and the art walks are a natural development from my habitual practice. They are a way of sharing my skills and experience, deepening a sense of belonging and inspiring and opening out new possibilities for others.
Walking.
We know that walking, especially walking in nature helps us feel good, vibrant and alive. Fresh air, beautiful surroundings, deep regular breathing … it boosts our health and lifts the spirits.
Another good thing about walking is that it can be overlaid with endless purposes and intentions. It could be for education or getting fit. It could be about exploring new places or deepening our understanding of a known place. it can be the pleasure of group activity, or a pilgrimage… or a trigger for creative expression. These are just a few of the things that immediately spring to mind.
Some of us artists use walking as a part of our practice, again in endless different ways - perhaps as an artform in itself; as a way of investigating our relationship with the world; as a tool for environmental activism… or as a way of engaging deeply and completely with place. I hope to be writing more on this in the Essential Nature blog or on this site.
It strikes me that all of these walking activities are ways of learning, exploring, creating, evolving, expanding our horizons and simply enjoying being alive. Here's to more creative enjoyment in the landscape!
Looking forward to hearing from you, and perhaps meeting you on one of our walks.
