Walking Art Workshops on Northam Burrows
Tuesday 13th, Thursday 15th and Saturday 17th September, 2011
from 1.30 to 4.30pm.
Leisurely 3 hour walking art workshops, each covering approximately 2.5 miles.
Easy walking, with a small amount of clambering over pebbles and sand dunes.

An enjoyable and creative art walk on Northam Burrows, with its wonderfully diverse landscape of pebble ridge, beach, sand dunes and grassland - not to mention fantastic views of the Atlantic, Lundy Island and across the wide sweep of Bideford Bay.
Northam Burrows is special, not only for its inspirational landscape and views - it is also highly important for wildlife. It lies within the North Devon Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, an integral part of the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere Reserve - and, largely because of its wide range of habitats and rare plants, it is also an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest).

We will walk at a leisurely pace so that we can draw breath, look and listen closely, involving ourselves in the intricacies of this unique coastal landscape. The emphasis will be on connecting and responding spontaneously to our surroundings using all of our senses. It is a journey of exploration and discovery covering just 2.5 miles .
It is suitable for all abilities, from absolute beginners to advanced artists, and is designed mainly for adults, though accompanied young people over 12 are most welcome. But, sorry, no dogs allowed.
Bring along anything you think you might need, such as a camera, sketchbook, or writing materials… or just come empty-handed and perhaps make small sculptures with stone, sand, driftwood or other materials found along the beach.
With your permission, your work and photos will be copied, and may be exhibited at local centres or online, for all to enjoy. There is also the Essential Nature blog (See the menu!) where you can contribute pictures, stories, blog posts, poetry and other creative work.

SOME DETAILS...
Meet up
We will be setting off from the Burrows Countryside Centre at 1.30pm. You might like to come early, to take the opportunity of exploring the Centre's fascinating displays of local bird, animal, marine and plant life.
Access
This is easy walking - perhaps more aptly described as a gentle wander - though not, unfortunately, suitable for wheelchairs or prams. There is a small amount of clambering over pebbles and sand dunes. However, the paths leading to the Burrows Centre are fully accessible, and there is a good car-parking area nearby.
There are also toilets - including one especially designed for people with prams, pushchairs and wheelchairs. For further information about Northam Burrows and the Burrows Centre, please see www.torridge.gov.uk. You will find Northam Burrows on the page titled 'Leisure'.
